"What a pain," Maou let out a sigh of mild irritation as he ran a hand through his hair and glanced sidelong at Nephrite. "If you don't have a job, the landlady's gonna get mad when we don't have her rent this month."

It wasn't easy running the Devil's Castle, with four people living there now, on two part-time salaries, much less one.

Kanda was never one to give in to nerves but there was something nerve-wrecking about going to pick up your girlfriend at home. What if her mother answered instead? What if she recognized him? What if she forbid Ami from being with him? He wouldn't blame her, Kanda hadn't quite told Ami about how he actually knew her mother. She wasn't hardly a doctor he could afford but she was at least generous with what type of patients she assisted. Now here he was taking her on a date.

First date, he had to remind himself. He had to be good. Whatever Ami was used to he wasn't accustomed to offering but she was girl worth trying anything for. He had dolled up, a casual look and a jacket for the evening. He loitered outside her building for a while, making sure to be punctual. He didn't want to ask for her early, he had to think about what he would say if someone else answered the door.

The building itself was impressive. He read through the directory finding the right one and buzzing her, awaiting for his girl with his hands in his pocket.

Don't let her mother be home...

Minako arrived at the shrine, somehow roped into having been the one to bring the egg there. She shaded her eyes as she glanced up along the staircase leading to the main grounds, and matter-of-factly headed straight up them.

She had a few things for the overnight packed: a chance of clothes, makeup and hairbrushes, a CD or two. In a way, it wasn't too bad to sneak off like this, to have a chance to spend some time with a friend.

"Think we can get it to sleep early?" she wondered. It didn't make her eager for Luna's senshi-bonding assignment.]

When the Master Chief offers for Mercury to fight at his side in his world, the AI Guardian Mist offers to accompany him instead. Once it's time to say a final farewell, Ami realizes all too keenly how much a part of her had wanted to accept.
Ami was early. This was more or less her normal state, and quite possibly the reason for the book in her hand. She counted pages as she waited for Usagi quite contentedly.

Two-thirty, she'd said. She might have a long time to wait, but surely Usagi would at least try to get to the bus stop on time and take the right route? She turned another page.

Of course. The mall behind her beckoned, after all. Ami entertained visions of the bookstore in particular, but she had a feeling they'd be visiting the food court and accessories shops (for every cute thing in the displays). That was fine, too. If it was alright with Usagi-chan, anything was fine.

Rei makes a strong figure dressed in her robes, the bright red and white dimmed by the low lighting. She holds an ofuda tightly in her hand. Her face is serious. She takes a deep breath, and centers her thoughts and her breathing.

The shrine candles flare into life all around her, one by one like links in a rippling chain. She surveys them with a muted satisfaction.

Then the noise starts. Rei hurries outside to see the commotion, and is confronted by a woman with dark feathery wings. "It's been awhile, Sailor Mars," she says. "I felt your power from miles away."

Rei backs away. She's never seen this woman before. It's only reflex, but she feels sure of herself as she gestures and speaks words she hasn't used in years. "Mars Power, Make-up!"

Mercury slammed face-first into the library bookshelves with enough force to make her crumble to the ground. Behind her, a very bizarrely dressed woman in a frumpy suit with a sailor collar loomed tall. The senshi clambered to her feet just in time to be struck by the next attack. She gritted her teeth as it cut into her.

"Silence!" hissed the phage, fired up and in her element. "A place of learning is a place of quiet! I'll teach you not to be so disruptive!"

The next blows came in rapid succession, until Mercury was knocked to the floor again, struggling for breath and struggling to find a way to turn the tide. Her shoulder was injured. Her uniform was already showing signs of wear and strain and so was she. The cut on her cheek bled a little as she pressed her fingers against the floor, willing her body to find the strength to get up again. Her eyes swept the room, and widened as they fell on Taiki Kou.

A lot of people nestled in a desk out of the way at the library with headphones on would probably be taking a break from their studying.

A lot of people are not Mizuno Ami. Though an occasional thoughtless tap of her finger suggests she's aware of the rhythms of the song she's listening to, a hit by the Three Lights, the stack of astronomy books nearly as tall as she is shows signs of use, and one is open in front of her. The music helps her to focus.

She's been here all day, without breakfast or lunch to smear or dirty the crisp pages, and a tired glance at her watch tells her it's already evening. She's starting to suspect what she's looking for simply won't be in these pages at all. (After all, how could it be? Humans on Earth know almost nothing about life outside it.)

Reluctantly, Ami closes a few of the books. She'll reshelve them and clear her head.

He's exhausted. He can feel the lack of strength in his limbs, the fatigue. He does not let himself collapse. He staggers only one step, he keeps his grip on his sword firm. His face is already dirty and bloodied; he can feel the way his arm no longer wants to respond to his will, dulled with pain. He wipes at his face, and red streaks across his white glove.

Insultingly, his opponent is a little girl who looks like nothing so much as a sailor senshi, and a mouse. Or perhaps he decided that when she called herself one: Sailor Iron Mouse. (Where is Mercury and what does she know of this? Or, he thinks with irritable humor, the cat?)

The mouse doesn't seem winded at all; in fact, she seems to be thrilled to be fighting. The strange golden bracers on her wrists glimmer in the light. Kunzite has an instinct to avoid them and, sure enough, it takes a great deal of his remaining power to shield himself from the blast they generate. He gathers his breath. She raises her arms.

"Don't stand in the way! Bring out the ones with the sailor crystals!" she chatters. "Galactica Crunch!"
18 February 2012 @ 12:08 pm
It's entertaining: Without stirring himself from his comfortable chair in his rooms, Kunzite can watch the trials of Mercury and her princess. He leans back, and folds his arms across his chest.

They are both running, hand in hand even. How sweet. The shitennou rolls his eyes. Their efforts make no more than a futile and useless gesture. He'd expect better of Mercury, but then, she'd just chosen foolishness so clearly, hadn't she? His youma require no effort to get from one place to another, to corner them and hem them in until there's nowhere to turn. He will leave no escape. The forest itself closes in on the girls, the very branches of the trees seem to creep closer to each other, leaving less space and less air.

He'd promised to overlook the sin she's committed in stepping away from him, if Mercury survives. He'll watch to the end to see whether she does. The presence of Sailor Moon - no, the princess - makes things more complicated, but...

He can use this.
